Location of the coolant drain plug
1. Cylinder block drain plug (all cars); 2. Radiator drain plug on late production vehicles; 3. Radiator drain plug on early production vehicles
Warning! Work is carried out on a cold engine, subject to safety precautions (antifreeze is poisonous).
Fluid change and flush
1. Place a vessel under the radiator drain plug.
2. Remove the drain plug and the radiator cap with two pliers (press and turn counterclockwise). Drain the liquid. Then unscrew the plug and drain the fluid from the cylinder block (if the liquid does not pour out, use a screwdriver to break the rust in the drain hole).
3. Check and, if necessary, replace damaged cooling system hoses.
4. Rinse the radiator with clean water (removes only sediment), if necessary, wash with special detergent (removes rust deposits). If it is not possible to flush the radiator, or if there is noticeable damage and leakage, remove the radiator and send it in for repair.
5. Disconnect the tank hose, drain the liquid, rinse the tank and put on the hose.
6. Tighten both drain plugs.
7. Move the heater lever to the maximum heat dissipation position.
8. Pour liquid (in a 50/50 ratio of water and antifreeze) to the bottom of the tank.
9. Without plugging the radiator, warm up the engine until the thermostat opens (felt by the heating of the upper hose).
10. Stop the engine and after cooling, fill in the liquid to the edge of the neck, pressing on the hose, remove the air, then tighten the plug.
11. Start the engine and check for leaks.
