Checking disc brakes
2. Pads can be checked through a window in the caliper (indicated by an arrow).
3. Measure the thickness of the friction linings, and if the thickness is less than specified in subsection 8.1, then replace the pads.
4. If there is any doubt about the normal condition of the pads, then the pads should be removed.
5. At the same time, measure the thickness of the disc and check the condition of the surface (regardless of its thickness). If the thickness is less than normal, then replace the disc. Minor surface defects are removed by grinding, a badly worn disc should be replaced.
6. Check the condition of the hose (the location of the test is indicated by an arrow) and hydraulic brake lines. Check the tightness of the connections, the absence of contact with moving parts. Repair any defects found immediately.
Checking drum brakes
7. Take off the drums (see subsection 8.6).
8. Check Thickness (A) friction linings. If their thickness (or distance to rivet heads) less than 1.6 mm, or there are signs of oiling or serious damage, replace the pads.
9. Check up a condition of springs and a backlash regulator between pads and drums.
10. Check for fluid leakage from the wheel cylinder by opening the dust cover. If a leak is found, replace the cylinder.
11. Check the condition of the drums. Sand small defects with sandpaper, if necessary, grind the drums.
12. Install all removed parts and lower the vehicle. Tighten the wheel nuts to the specified torque.
