1. Move the transmission lever to the neutral position. Applying moderate force to the handbrake lever, count the number of clicks of the full travel of the lever. If the number of clicks is not correct, then the handbrake must be adjusted.
2. Check the operation of the handbrake by driving the vehicle on a steep slope. If the vehicle rolls, adjust the handbrake. The adjustment procedure is described in subsection 8.13.
3. On vehicles with rear disc brakes, the handbrake should be checked annually. To do this, raise the car and remove the rear wheels and brake discs (see subsection 8.5), move aside and fix the calipers.
4. Check the thickness of the handbrake pads (indicated by arrows), which usually wear out only with improper adjustment. If the lining thickness is less than 0.8 mm, then it is recommended to replace the pads. Check the condition of the regulator and springs.
