1. Before installing new piston rings, sort the rings and check the gap in the joints (here on the left). To do this, push the ring through the piston head (photo on the right). The ring should be at the bottom of the cylinder, in the position corresponding to the bottom dead center.
2. If the gap is too small, then carefully file the ends of the ring with a thin file, holding it in a vise. Drive the ring along the needle file, but not vice versa. It is allowed to increase the gap in the joint up to 1.0 mm.
3. Repeat the procedure for all rings of one piston.
4. Install the rings on the piston, starting with the oil scraper. Install the ring spacer/expander into the groove. Make sure the pin is in the groove (if provided) and install the lower and upper disks.
5. When installing oil scraper discs, it is impossible to use a device for dressing rings, as they may break. Insert the disc, press it with your finger from one end and slide it along the ring, thereby placing it in the groove.
6. Make sure the top and bottom discs turn freely in the groove (arrow). Install the lower and upper compression rings in order. The marks on the rings must face the piston crown (those. up with piston in normal position). If available, use a ring expander.
