Note. Carry out the check at the operating temperature of the automatic transmission fluid (70-90 °C).
1. RPM measurement:
A) Install wheel chocks.
b) Connect a tachometer.
V) Apply the parking brake.
G) Press all the way down on the brake pedal.
d) Start the engine.
e) Translate the selector to a range "D". Press all the way down on the accelerator pedal. Quickly read the tachometer readings and compare them with the prescribed values.
- Rotational speed with a fully braked car - 2300 - 2900 rpm
Caution: If the rear wheels start spinning before the RPM reaches the required value for this test, then release the accelerator pedal and stop the test.
and) Repeat test with selector in range "R".
2. Analysis of the test results.
A) If the speed in both cases is the same, but less than required, then either the engine does not develop full power, or the freewheel of the torque converter reactor is faulty.
Note: If the speed is more than 600 rpm less than the specified value, then the torque converter may be faulty.
A) If the rotational speed is in the range "D" above, then:
- too low pressure in the main line;
- there is a slip in the forward clutch;
- Freewheel defective.
b) If the rotational speed is in the range "R" above required:
- too low pressure in the main line;
- there is a slip in the reverse clutch;
- Freewheel defective.
V) If the speed is lower than required on both ranges, then:
- faulty torque converter;
- the engine does not develop enough power.
G) If the speed is higher than required in both ranges, then:
- too low pressure in the main line;
- the level of the working fluid in the gearbox does not correspond to the required value;
- Freewheel defective.
