If you move the selector to the "D" or "R" position with the engine idling, some time should pass before you feel a slight jolt. The length of this delay can be used to judge the serviceability of the forward clutch, reverse clutch, first gear brake, and reverse gear.

Note:
  • The test should be carried out at normal operating temperature of the working fluid (70-80°C).
  • Perform three tests and then determine the average delay time for first gear engagement.
  • There must be an interval of at least one minute between checks.

1. Measuring the gear engagement time.

a) Apply the parking brake.

b) Start the engine at idle speed.

c) Move the selector from position "N" to position "D" and measure the time until you feel the jolt of gear engagement.
  • Delay time - no more than 1 second

d) Move the selector from position "N" to position "R" and measure the time until you feel the jolt of gear engagement.
  • Delay time - no more than 1 second

2. Analysis of the inspection results.

a) If the "N→D" switching time is longer than required:
  • too low pressure in the main line;
  • wear of the forward clutch.

b) If the switching time "N→R" is longer than required:
  • too low pressure in the main line;
  • reverse clutch wear;
  • wear of the first gear and reverse gear brakes.

Plugs for checking the pressure of the corresponding elements.
1 - first gear and reverse gear brake (B2),
2 - reverse clutch (RC),
3 - direct transmission clutch (C1),
4 - second gear brake (B1) (in third gear),
5 - throttle valve,
6 - forward clutch (C2),
7 - second gear brake (B1) (in second gear),
8 - speed controller.
