- Disconnect the ground wire from the battery.
- Disconnect the connector from the rear of the generator.
- Loosen the V-belt adjuster tension bracket bolt and both generator mounting bolts, press the generator inward and remove the V-belt.
- Completely unscrew the generator mounting bolts and pull out the generator.
Installing the generator is done in the reverse order. Place the V-belt on the pulleys and press the generator outward in its suspension. Hold the generator in this position and tighten the tension bracket bolt. The V-belt is tensioned correctly if it bends when pressed firmly with your finger to the value below:
- On the 4A-F/FE engine, tension is controlled on the top side between the water pump and alternator pulleys (the water pump is driven by the same belt). The new belt should bend by 8.5-10.5 mm; rolled belt - 10.0-12.0 mm,
- On the 3S-FE and diesel engines, the tension is controlled on the left side between the crankshaft and alternator pulleys. The new belt should bend by 11-15 mm; rolled belt - 13-15 mm.
