The engine has an ignition system with individual coils (DIS). By using DIS, the accuracy of ignition timing is improved, high voltage leakage is reduced and, due to the absence of a distributor, the reliability of the ignition system as a whole is increased. A feature of DIS is the presence of a separate ignition coil (with ignition pulse generator) on each of the cylinders.
The spark plug tips that make contact with the spark plugs are integrated with the ignition coils. In addition, to simplify the design of the system, ignition pulse shaping units are built into the ignition coils.
