Checking the wiper motor
1. If the windshield wipers slow down, check the battery level first (see chapter Vehicle settings and routine maintenance). If the battery is OK, remove the wiper motor (see below) and evaluate the freedom of movement of the levers of the latter manually. If there are signs of jamming, lubricate the drive link joints, or make the appropriate reconditioning. Install the electric motor. If the speed of movement is still insufficient, evaluate the condition of the contact connections of the electrical wiring of the corresponding circuit. If the wiring is OK, replace the electric motor.
2. If the wipers fail to activate, check the condition of the appropriate fuse. If the fuse is OK, duplicate the grounding of the electric motor with a jumper wire and repeat the test. If the wipers work this time, repair the grounding of the drive motor, otherwise turn on the wipers, disconnect the electrical wiring from the motor (refer to accompanying illustration) and check if the power is being supplied to it. If power is not supplied, check the condition of the corresponding stalk switch (see Section Search for the causes of electrical equipment failures). If the voltage is correct, replace the electric motor.
3. In order to provide access to the contact terminals of the rear wiper motor drive, remove the rear door trim panel (see chapter Body).
Electric motor replacement
Front wipers
Typical windshield wiper arm drive circuit
1. Remove the front fairing panel (see chapter Body) and disconnect the electrical wiring from the wiper drive motor.
2. Turn out fixing bolts.
3. Disconnect the pump actuating lever from the windshield wiper drive rod (refer to accompanying illustration Typical windshield wiper arm drive circuit).
4. To remove the rods, unscrew the bolts securing them to the fairing (refer to illustration).
5. Installation is carried out in the reverse order.
Rear wiper
Typical tailgate wiper arm drive circuit
1. Prying off, remove the decorative cover and give the nut securing the wiper arm (refer to illustration above).
2. Open the tailgate, remove the interior upholstery panel and service hole cover (see chapter Body).
3. Turn out fixing bolts, disconnect electroconducting and remove driving electric motor.
4. Installation is carried out in the reverse order.
Pump replacement
1. Remove the washer reservoir from the vehicle.
2. Detach the pump wiring from the reservoir.
3. Disconnect the wiring connector from the pump and remove the pump from the washer reservoir.
4. Remove the seal and check its integrity.
5. Installation is carried out in the reverse order.
