Note. Below is a description of the procedure for dismantling an outdoor type antenna. Some models are equipped with a windshield-mounted antenna, the maintenance of such antennas is beyond the skill of the average amateur mechanic and should be entrusted to car service specialists.
Remove the radio and disconnect the antenna cable from it (see Section Removal and installation of the audio system and its speakers). «take a walk» along the antenna cable, releasing it from the intermediate clamps. Tie a piece of string to the end of the cable. The route of laying the antenna cable is shown in the accompanying illustration.
Fixed mast antenna
1. Using a small open end wrench of a suitable size, unscrew the antenna mast from its base.
2. Loosen the antenna mast base assembly fastening nut (refer to accompanying illustration), use pliers to remove the circlips. Pull out the antenna cable (leave the string tied to the cable threaded into the hole for the installation of the mast. Carefully remove all traces of dirt and rust from the antenna mount.
3. Tie the cable of the new antenna to the string and pull it inside the body element.
4. Further installation is carried out in the reverse order to the dismantling of the components.
Power Mast Antenna
Note. You will need the help of an assistant to complete this procedure.
Note. The system contains a relay. If the antenna drive stops functioning, check the relay first. The drive e/motor rarely fails.
1. If disconnected, connect the battery and turn the ignition key to the LOCK position.
2. Loosen the antenna mast base nut (refer to illustration above).
3. Next, one person should be in the car, the second should hold the antenna mast. Ask an assistant to simultaneously press the AM / FM button on the radio control panel and turn the ignition key to the ACC position, the antenna mast should extend to its full length, after which it can be disconnected from the drive motor. Remove the mast, leave the ignition key in the ACC position.
4a. Remove the wheel arch locker of the corresponding vehicle wing (see chapter Body) and unbolt the antenna mast drive motor from the wing. Pull the antenna cable completely out, leaving the string tied to it threaded through the hole in the body element (refer to accompanying illustration).
4b. Release the three clips and remove the wheel arch lining panel, then give the fixing bolt and remove the drive motor (refer to accompanying illustration).
4s. See the accompanying illustration for the polarity of the terminals of the antenna drive motor connector.
5. Tie the cable of the new antenna to the string left through the body panel and pull it back into the car.
6. Install the antenna mast drive motor in its original place.
7. Install the antenna mast with the cable facing forward across the vehicle.
8. Turn the ignition key to the LOCK position, the cable should reel in and the mast should retract inside the wing.
Note. If, for any reason, the key was previously turned from the ACC position to the LOCK position, repeat the procedure described in paragraph 8. If the cable does not begin to wind when the key is turned to the LOCK position, move it at the entrance to the mechanism so that the lower end unfolds and is captured by the coil.
9. Tighten the antenna mast base nut, even if the mast has not yet fully retracted into the wing panel. The mast should retract completely when any of the radio band selection buttons on the radio control panel is pressed.
10. Further installation is carried out in the reverse order to the dismantling of the components.
