Transmission operating modes
1. Rear wheel drive mode (control lever in position "H2", button "H4" protrudes and the freewheels are unlocked).
This mode is designed for normal driving on dry paved roads. This mode is very economical, it provides the least noise and transmission wear, and the best vehicle handling.
2. Overdrive in 4WD mode (control lever in position "H2", button "H4" pressed and freewheels locked).
This mode is designed for normal driving on wet, icy or snow-covered roads.
3. Neutral transfer case (control lever in position "N").
Torque is not transmitted to the wheels. This mode is intended only for operation with a winch or other auxiliary equipment.
4. Downshift in 4WD mode (control lever in position "L4", button "H4" pressed and freewheels locked).
Use this mode for maximum torque and traction. Use low gear ("L4") for heavy driving conditions. For example, when going up and down steep hills, driving off-road, in sand, mud or deep snow.
Attention:
- The speed of movement in low gear is not more than 40 km / h.
- Be careful when downshifting on slippery roads. Sudden gear changes can cause the vehicle to skid or skid.
Freewheels
To reduce noise, wear, vibration and fuel consumption in the mode of movement with one leading axle, freewheels are installed with manual or automatic engagement of the front axle. Putting the couplings in position "unlocked" disconnects the wheels from the axle shaft.
Note: to ensure the reliability of the lubrication of the front axle units, it is necessary to drive the car every month for a distance of at least 15 km with the freewheels locked.
1. Models with manual freewheel lock.
A) To enable the clutch lock, set the lock to the position "LOCK" (blocked).
Note: Make sure the triangle on the bollard is aligned with the corresponding triangle on the clutch housing.
b) To disable the clutch lock, set the lock to the position "FREE" (unlocked).
2. Models with automatic freewheel lock.
A) Install an interlock switch "Hub Lock" into position "ON" (button pressed), then drive the vehicle for a few meters to activate the clutch lock mechanism. Check that the lock-on indicator on the instrument cluster lights up.
b) Install an interlock switch "Hub Lock" into position "OFF" (button released), then drive the vehicle for a few meters to activate the clutch lock mechanism. Verify that the lock-on indicator is off.
Switching technique
1. Switch from mode (2WD-"H2") into mode (4WD-"H4").
Make sure the freewheels are locked. Press the button at any speed "H4" on the dashboard and briefly release the accelerator pedal. Depressing the clutch pedal is not required.
Attention:
- Do not enable mode (4WD-"H4"), if the wheels are slipping. Stop slipping or slipping before shifting.
- Do not move if only one freewheel is locked.
2. Switch from mode (4WD-"H4") into mode (2WD-"H2").
Press the button at any speed "H4" on the dashboard. Depressing the clutch pedal is not required.
Note: it is recommended to disable the freewheel lock when driving in the (2WD-"H2") over a long period of time.
3. Switch from mode (2WD-"H2") or mode (4WD-"H4") into low gear (4WD-"L4").
Stop the vehicle and make sure the freewheels are locked and the button "H4" pressed. Depress the clutch pedal and move the transfer case control lever to the position "L4". If switching is not possible, then roll the car forward or backward and repeat the switch.
4. Switching from downshift mode "L4" into mode (2WD-"H2") or into the mode (4WD-"H4").
Stop the car. Depress the clutch pedal and move the transfer case control lever to the position "H2". If the button "H4" pressed - it will switch to the mode (4WD-"H4H), if button "H4" released - it will switch to the mode (2WD-"H2"). If switching is not possible, then roll the car forward or backward and repeat the switch.
Note: it is recommended to disable the freewheel lock when driving in the (2WD-"H2") over a long period of time.
Rear limited slip differential (self-locking) Some modifications are equipped with a self-locking limited slip differential. If one rear wheel begins to spin on a slippery surface, the self-locking limited-slip differential, designed to increase traction, will automatically transfer torque to the other rear wheel.
If your vehicle is equipped with a limited-slip limited-slip differential, there should be a plate on the differential housing with the mark "LSD". If the plate is missing or the writing is illegible, contact your Toyota dealer or check the plate in the engine compartment. If the last digit of the code "AXLE" is "3" or "5", then your vehicle is equipped with a self-locking limited slip differential.
Caution: Use replacement tires of the same size, design and load capacity as the original tires on your vehicle, as using tires of a different type may damage the limited slip differential.
Rear differential lock system
1. The rear axle differential lock is designed to be used only in the event of wheel slip when driving off-road or on slippery roads.
Note: Do not use the rear axle differential lock in other conditions. This may require more effort when driving, especially when cornering.
2. Differential lock.
Attention: the vehicle must be stopped before engaging the differential lock.
A) To lock the rear axle differential, press the switch and turn it clockwise until it clicks.
b) On vehicles with a manual transmission: To ease the lock, depress the clutch pedal, turn the lock switch and slowly release the clutch pedal.
V) On vehicles with automatic transmission: To facilitate locking, turn the lock switch and gently depress the accelerator pedal.
G) When the switch is moved to the differential lock state, the indicator will flash for a few seconds while the system locks. When the differential lock is complete, the indicator will stop flashing and stay on.
Note:
- Do not lock the differential while the wheels are spinning, as the vehicle may move in an unexpected direction while locking, resulting in an accident or damage to the locking system.
- Do not accelerate the vehicle to a speed exceeding 8 km/h with the differential lock engaged.
3. Differential unlocking.
Attention: unlock the differential after the vehicle starts moving.
A) To unlock the differential, turn the switch all the way counterclockwise (position "OFF").
b) To facilitate unlocking, turn the steering wheel slightly in either direction while driving.
V) When the rear differential is unlocked, the corresponding indicator will turn off.
Note: Don't forget to turn off the lock when you no longer need it.
