- Apply the handbrake.
- After removing the wheel cover, remove the cotter pin from the wheel hub nut and loosen the nut with the appropriate wrench head. Also loosen the wheel nuts.
- Raise the car and place the front of the car on stands.
- Remove the wheel.
- Remove the protective cover at the front of the car.
- Drain the oil from the gearbox.
- Unscrew the nut and use a puller to disconnect the tie rod ball joint from the steering knuckle arm.
- On a car with a 2.0 liter petrol engine, unscrew the shaft flange bolts from the inside of the gearbox. To keep the shaft from turning, press the brake pedal while unscrewing each nut. Press the shaft flange off the drive flange studs.
- Remove the nuts and bolts from the underside of the control arm and press the control arm away from the shock absorber.
- Unscrew the brake caliper from the shock absorber and secure it to a piece of wire on the coil of the spring so that it does not sag on the brake hose.
- Remove the brake disc from the wheel hub (Preliminarily note the relative position of the disk and hub).
- Press the drive shaft out of the wheel hub. To do this, you may need a puller, which should be installed in accordance with Figure 175. Tighten the middle bolt until the shaft comes out of the hub. At the same time, wrap a rag around the cuff of the axle. Now you can pull out the drive shaft on a car with a 2.0 liter engine.

On other engines, removing the drive shaft is a little more difficult and also varies with a manual transmission or automatic transmission:
- To remove the left drive shaft with an automatic transmission, place a hammer and wheel wrench, as shown in Figure 176, and hit the wrench with your fist until the shaft comes out of the box.
- With a manual transmission, proceed in the same way, but install the wheel wrench as shown in Figure 177.
- To remove the right drive shaft, knock the shaft out of the box using a long rod and a hammer, as shown in Figure 178, from the inside of the car.
- Regardless of how the drive shaft is removed, be careful not to damage the seals or joints.
