Removing
Mark with paint the position of the wheel disk relative to the hub. Thanks to this, the balanced wheel can be installed in its original place.
Loosen the wheel nuts from the vehicle that is on the ground.
Raise the rear of the car.
Remove wheel.
Attention: Swapping the brake pads from the outside to the inside and vice versa, or from the right wheel to the left is not allowed. Such a shift can lead to uneven braking action. Therefore, it is necessary to change both pads of both axles at the same time. When removing the brake pads and reinstalling them, they must be marked.
Release the handbrake.
Unscrew the lower guide pin of the brake caliper housing.
Tilt the piston housing up and tie it with wire to the body so as to exclude stress on the hose.
Attention: Do not remove the brake hose. Otherwise, the system will have to be pumped.
Slightly tighten the wheel nuts to secure the brake disc.
Remove two brake pads with two spacer springs (at the bottom of the picture), two fixing springs (upstairs) and two anti-creak plates.
Installation
Attention: Do not press the brake pedal with the brake pads removed. Otherwise, you can squeeze out the piston of the housing. If the piston is accidentally pushed out, it must be installed back in a specialist workshop.
Clean with a soft metal brush and wipe with alcohol the guide and bearing surfaces of the pads in the body shaft. Do not use solvents containing mineral oils and sharp-edged tools.
Before installing the brake pad, check the quality of its surface by feeling with your fingers. Do not install a block with a corrugated surface.
Measure brake disc thickness.
Check the boot and protective cuffs in the brake caliper for cracks. Replace the dust boot that is damaged, because dirt entering through it leads to a loss of caliper density. In this case, the caliper must be removed and disassembled (work of a specialized workshop).
Turn the brake piston to the stop clockwise with the special tool SST 097-14020.
You don't need to remove the brake caliper to do this. The figure shows the removed caliper for clarity.
Attention: The brake piston must turn out exactly. If it is simply squeezed out, the automatic self-adjustment of the hand brake in the caliper is violated.
The piston turning tool must fit into the grooves of the piston so that the piston can be rotated. If there is no special tool, with a certain qualification, the tool can be made independently. Otherwise, contact a specialist workshop.
Attention: When pressing on the piston, the level of liquid in the tank rises. Monitor the fluid level in the reservoir. Suck off liquid if necessary. To suck the fluid, you can use a special container or a plastic bottle, which is used only for brake fluid. Do not use bottles for drinking liquids! Brake fluid is poisonous and must never be sucked in by mouth through a hose. Apply a siphon before suction. After replacing the brake pads, the fluid level in the reservoir should not exceed the mark «max», because As the fluid heats up, it expands and leaking brake fluid damages the vehicle's protective paintwork and causes corrosion.
The following procedure is recommended. To avoid squealing in disc brakes, you can cover the back of the brake pads and anti-squeal plates with a thin layer of grease (e.g. Plastilube, Tunap VC 582/S, Chevron SRJ/2, Liqui Moly LM-36 or LM 508-ASC). Never allow grease to get on brake pads or brake discs. In case of contact with these surfaces, they must be washed with alcohol.
Insert new spacer and fixing springs into the brake caliper.
Insert brake pads with anti-squeal plates and lower the piston housing down. In this case, the protrusion on the inner shoe must fall into the groove of the brake piston. Be careful not to damage the cuffs when lowering the housing.
Tighten the brake carrier bolt to 20 Nm.
Remove the wheel nuts.
Install the wheel and tighten the wheel nuts. At the same time, observe the marking of the wheel relative to the hub. Tighten nuts to 105 Nm crosswise.
Caution: Press the brake pedal vigorously several times until a strong resistance is felt.
Check fluid level in reservoir. If necessary, top up to the mark «max».
Adjust handbrake.
Let the new brake pads run in. To do this, brake the car several times from a speed of 80 km/h to a speed of 40 km/h by briefly depressing the brake pedal. Allow the brake to cool down in between.
Attention: Do not apply sudden braking for the first 200 km.
