Removing
Mark the position of the wheel disk relative to the hub. Thanks to this, the balanced wheel can be returned to its original position.
Loosen the wheel nuts while the vehicle is on the ground.
Raise the front of the car.
Remove wheel.
Attention: Swapping the brake pads from the outside to the inside and vice versa, or from the right wheel to the left is not allowed. Such a shift can lead to uneven braking action. Therefore, it is necessary to change both brake pads of both wheels at the same time. When removing brake pads with subsequent installation, they must be marked.
Rotate the caliper outward and thus press the piston of the brake cylinder.
Unscrew the two guide bolts of the caliper housing.
Pull the piston housing up and tie it with a wire to the body without pulling the hose.
Caution: Do not disconnect the brake hose. Otherwise, during installation it will be necessary to pump the system.
Screw on the wheel nuts to secure the brake disc.
Open the springs pressing the washers, preventing the squeal of the brakes.
Remove the brake pads together with the springs, wear sensors and anti-squeak plates, see also fig. G-4447.
Installation
Attention: Do not press the brake pedal with the brake pads removed. Otherwise, you can squeeze the piston out of the housing.
Clean with a soft metal brush and wipe with alcohol the guide surface and the bearing surface of the pad in the caliper shaft. Do not use solvents containing mineral oils and sharp-edged tools.
Before installing the brake pad, check the quality of its surface, feel it with your fingers. A block with a corrugated surface is not allowed to be installed.
Measure brake disc thickness.
Check the anthers and protective cuffs in the brake caliper for cracks. The dust boot that is damaged must be replaced, because. dirt entering through it leads to a loss of caliper density. In this case, the caliper must be removed and disassembled (work of a specialized workshop).
Press out the brake piston with a wooden block (hammer handle), being careful not to warp or damage the surfaces of the piston and boot.
Attention: When pressing on the piston, the brake fluid is squeezed out of the brake cylinder into the reservoir. Monitor the flow of brake fluid into the reservoir. Suck off liquid if necessary.
To suck the liquid, use a special container or a plastic bottle, which is used only for brake fluids! Brake fluid is poisonous and must never be sucked out by mouth through a hose. Use a siphon for suction. After replacing the brake pads, the fluid level in the reservoir should not exceed the mark «max», because liquid expands when heated. Leaking brake fluid damages the vehicle's protective paintwork and causes corrosion.
Caution: If the brake pads are heavily worn, check that the piston can move freely. To do this, insert a wooden block into the brake caliper and depress the brake pedal slowly with assistance. The brake piston should move in and out easily. To check, install another caliper. Make sure that the piston is not completely pressed out. If this happened by chance, then after installing the piston in place from the brake system air must be removed.
The following procedure is recommended. To avoid squealing in disc brakes, you can cover the back of the brake pads and anti-squeal plates with a thin layer of grease (e.g. Plastilube, Tunap VC582/S, Chevron SRJ/2, Liqui Moly LM-36 or LM-508-ASC). Never allow grease to get on brake pads or brake discs. If grease gets on these surfaces, they must be washed with alcohol.
Insert new spacer springs into the brake caliper.
Insert a new wear sensor into each brake pad from the top.
Attention: Make sure that the arrow on the wear indicator points in the direction of disc rotation. The wear sensor signals when the brake pad wear limit is reached with an audible signal in the form of a squeal of the brakes (by touching the brake disc).
Insert both brake pads with new anti-squeak plates.
Insert anti-squeak springs into the brake pads from above.
Install the piston housing and secure it with two bolts to 25 Nm.
Remove the wheel nuts.
Install» wheel on the hub, observing the markings. Screw nuts. Lower the vehicle and tighten the nuts crosswise to 105 Nm.
Caution: Press the brake pedal vigorously several times until a strong resistance is felt.
Check the brake fluid level in the reservoir. If necessary, add fluid up to the mark «max».
Let the new brake pads run in. To do this, brake the car several times from a speed of 80 km/h to a speed of 40 km/h by briefly depressing the brake pedal. Allow the brake to cool down in between.
Attention: Do not apply heavy braking for the first 200 km.
