Vehicle check
1. Checking the electromagnetic clutch.
A) Check that there are no traces of oil on the pressure plate and rotor.
b) Check for noise and grease leakage from the clutch bearings.
V) Connect the positive battery terminal to the clutch terminal and the negative terminal to "earth". Check clutch operation. Replace the clutch if it doesn't work.
2. Compressor check.
A) Install the gauge block.
b) Start the engine and set the mode to about 2000 rpm.
V) Check that the high pressure gauge is not too low and the low pressure gauge is not too high.
G) Make sure there is no metallic sound.
d) Check the tightness of the shaft seal.
e) Replace the compressor if malfunctions are found.
Removing
1. Start the engine at idle and turn on the air conditioner.
2. Stop the engine after 10 minutes.
3. Disconnect the negative lead from the battery.
4. Remove the bottom cover.
5. Disconnect the connector from the magnetic coupling.
6. Remove the refrigerant from the system.
7. Disconnect hoses from compressor service ports.
Caution: Install plugs immediately to prevent moisture ingress.
8. Remove the compressor.
A) Loosen the drive belt.
b) Turn away bolts of fastening and remove the compressor.
Checking compressor operation
1. Leak test.
A) Install a test valve on the service port.
Note: Use only test valve for testing "TOYOTA".
b) Fill the compressor through the filling valve to a pressure of 294 kPa (3 kgf/cm2).
V) Check the compressor for leaks. Replace compressor if leaks are found.
2. Vacuuming the compressor and charging with refrigerant.
A) Make sure there is no water or dirt.
b) Tighten all fitting caps. Note: For long term storage, fill the compressor with refrigerant or nitrogen to prevent corrosion.
Compressor installation
1. Install the compressor by tightening the three mounting bolts.
Tightening torque - 27 N.m
2. Install the drive belt.
3. Connect the hoses to the compressor valves. Tighten the hose fittings.
Tightening torques:
- release models before 1995 - 25 N.m
- release models from 1995 - 10 Nm
4. Connect the output of the magnetic clutch.
5. Connect the negative lead to the battery.
6. Vacuum the system.
7. Charge the system with refrigerant and check for leaks.
Refrigerant quantity:
- single conditioner - 900±50 g
- double conditioner - 1600±50 g
