A similar check and adjustment must be carried out during the maintenance period. With other types of ignition systems, a change in the ignition timing as a result of mechanical wear usually does not occur. However, TOYOTA prescribes the control of 8 such ignition systems during maintenance.
To facilitate the control of the ignition timing, it is recommended to apply markings with white paint on the crankshaft belt pulley and on the toothed belt cover.
A tachometer and a stroboscope are required to check the ignition timing adjustment.
Engine displacement of 1.3 liters up to 7/84 of release. Adjust the angle of the closed state of the contacts, see the relevant section.
Start the engine, warm it up to operating temperature and stop.
Connect the tachometer and stroboscope according to the manufacturer's instructions. If the engine has an ignition distributor with a built-in ignition coil and does not have a built-in tachometer, then the speed can be measured using the free, green plug. This plug is mounted on the ignition distributor housing.
For some engine models, it is necessary to bridge the conclusions E1 and T in the diagnostic plug located on the left suspension strut. The engine models for which this must be done are given at the end of the section.
Remove the vacuum hose of the vacuum regulator, if any, from the ignition distributor and close it with a technological plug in the form of, for example, a bolt. For a two-stage vacuum regulator, remove the hose from the second stage only, see figure.
Start the engine and adjust to the specified in the table (at the end of the section) speed.
Aim the strobe light at the TDC marking on the crankshaft pulley.
The ignition timing is adjusted correctly if the mark on the pulley seems to be against the mark on the timing belt cover. Ignition timings are shown in the table at the end of the section.
If adjustment of the ignition timing is required, unscrew the terminal connection screws on the distributor and adjust the ignition timing by turning the distributor.
Tighten the screws on the distributor to 20 Nm.
Remove the plug of the vacuum hose and put the hose on the distributor.
Remove electrical wire (diagnostic plug jumper).
Disconnect the control devices with the ignition off.
In the conditions of a specialized workshop, the adjustment of the weights of the centrifugal regulator and the vacuum regulator are additionally checked at different speeds. This should only be done if there is a problem with the ignition system.
Check the idle speed and need to adjust.
1) Bridge the contacts of the diagnostic plug with a wire.
