2. Remove drive plate or flywheel.
3. Remove the rear motor plate (refer to accompanying illustration).
4. Removal of the old oil seal can be made without first dismantling its housing by prying it with a screwdriver, however, in order to avoid the risk of damage to the crankshaft trunnion, the compilers of this Guide recommend acting in accordance with the instructions below.
5. Remove the bolts securing the stuffing box to the block and remove the assembly, clean the mating surfaces from fragments of the gasket material and old sealant (refer to accompanying illustration).
6. After placing the removed holder on the workbench on two wooden blocks, knock out the old oil seal with a punch from the back of the plate (refer to illustration).
7. Wipe the gland seat with acetone. Lay the holder on a flat, hard surface and tap a new oil seal into the socket, using a wooden block or a piece of pipe of a suitable diameter as a mandrel.
8. Lubricate the seal lips with clean engine oil.
9. Gently pressing the holder, put it in its regular place. Proceed slowly, making sure that the jaws of the stuffing box do not wrap when putting it on the shaft trunnion (refer to illustration). Screw in fixing bolts and evenly tighten them to the required torque.
10. Further installation is carried out in the reverse order to the dismantling of the components.
