Removing
Attention! Precise observance of valve timing is very important, but for DOHC engines it is extremely important. Incorrect phase setting can seriously damage the motor. Be careful when installing the timing belt and before the first start after repair, check the coincidence of the marks again.
Note. Do not turn the crankshaft or camshafts with the timing belt removed, and do not turn the engine by the camshaft gears. Only turn the engine in its normal direction (clockwise).
Timing drive assembly
1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
Attention! If the stereo system installed in the car is equipped with a security code, before disconnecting the battery, make sure that you have the correct combination to activate the audio system!
2. Turn out spark plugs.
3. Remove all components that interfere with the removal of the timing belt cover.
4. Remove the cover (1) timing belt (refer to illustration above).
5. Turn the crankshaft clockwise and align the alignment marks (2).
6. Make sure the labels (4) also matched.
7. Give and completely turn out the bolts of the timing belt tensioner assembly.
8. Remove tensioner assembly (6), remove the bolt (7) tensioner pulley and remove the pulley (8).
9. Remove the timing belt.
Examination
See test description for 2UZ-FE engine (Chapter Removing, checking the condition and installing the gas distribution belt and timing gears).
Installation
1. Fix the timing belt tensioner rod by crushing a 1.5 mm thick stud into the holes in the rod and the tensioner itself.
2. Put the timing belt on the pulleys and make sure that the alignment marks match.
3. Install the tensioner pulley and tighten the bolts of its fastening with a force of 34 Nm.
4. Install the tensioner and tighten the bolts of its fastening with a force of 13 Nm.
5. Remove the locking pin, thereby tensioning the belt.
6. Rotate the crankshaft two turns clockwise. Make sure the match marks match. Otherwise, repeat the procedure for installing and tensioning the timing belt.
7. Establish other removed components upside-down. Tighten fasteners to the required torque.
8. Reset indications K/L of replacement of a timing belt. To do this, contact the HUNDRED Toyota.
9. After replacing the timing belt, check the operation of the high pressure fuel pump.
