Removing
1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
Attention! If the stereo system installed in the car is equipped with a security code, before disconnecting the battery, make sure that you have the correct combination to activate the audio system!
Jack up the car and place it on jack stands. Remove transmission (see chapter Gear box).
2. Using a punch or marker, mark the position of the drive disk in relation to the end of the crankshaft.
3. Turn out bolts of fastening of a driving disk to a cranked shaft. If the shaft begins to turn while loosening the bolts, insert a screwdriver into the teeth of the flywheel crown.
4. Remove the drive disc assembly from the crankshaft.
Note. The weight of the assembly is very significant - it would be wise to resort to the help of an assistant. Wear work gloves to avoid cutting your hands on the sharp edges of the ring teeth. Also remove the distance plates installed on both sides of the drive disk, try to remember the order in which the components are installed.
Installation
1. Thoroughly degrease the drive disc assembly and inspect its running surfaces for cracks, gouges, rivet heads, overheating, and other damage. Minor defects can be removed with fine sandpaper, in more serious cases the assembly must be replaced. Check the condition of the teeth of the crown by laying the drive disk assembly on a flat surface, evaluate the amount of its non-flatness.
2. Clean and inspect mating surfaces of drive plate and crankshaft trunnion. If necessary, replace the rear oil seal (see Section Replacement of a back epiploon of a cranked shaft).
3. Remove traces of old sealant from bolts and bolt holes.
Attention! If the bolts cannot be completely cleaned, replace them with new ones, on which the sealant should no longer be applied.
4. Don't forget to install the spacer plates. Follow the correct alignment of the landing marks applied during the dismantling of the components. Before screwing in the mounting bolts, grease their threaded part with a fixing sealant.
5. By blocking the drive disk from turning (see paragraph 3), diagonally tighten the fixing bolts to the required torque.
6. Further installation is carried out in the reverse order to the dismantling of the components.
