Engine thermostat 1FZ-FE
1. Thermostat
2. Gasket
3. Inlet pipe
Warning! Work is carried out on a cold engine in compliance with safety measures (antifreeze is poisonous).
Examination
1. Before drawing a conclusion about a thermostat malfunction, check the fluid level, the condition of the pump belt and the serviceability of the temperature gauge (or control lamp).
2. If the engine takes a long time to warm up (this can be determined by the slow increase in temperature according to the pointer, or by the slow heating of the air by the heater), then the likely cause is a stuck thermostat valve. In this case, replace the thermostat.
3. If the engine overheats, check the heating of the upper radiator hose. If the hose is warm and the engine is hot, then the thermostat is closed, blocking the flow of fluid from the engine to the radiator. Replace thermostat.
Attention! Vehicles with an injection engine must not be driven without a thermostat. In the absence of a thermostat, the feedback circuit for automatic control of the emission control systems and the fuel system is opened, resulting in a decrease in engine efficiency.
Replacement
1. Disconnect the battery from the ground and drain the liquid.
2. Disconnect the vacuum hoses from the thermostat (if provided).
3. Remove the thermostat housing, the hose can not be disconnected from the housing.
4. Take out the thermostat, paying attention to its orientation (thermostat spring facing engine).
5. Carefully remove the old seal.
6. Replace gasket (since 1993 the gasket has been placed around the edge of the thermostat and is a grooved O-ring), orient and install the thermostat.
7. Tighten the bolts.
8. Fill with fluid, start the engine and check for leaks.
