Attention! The oil seal can be replaced without removing the front cover. However, access to the stuffing box expands and it is more convenient to work if the cover is removed.
Replacing the oil seal without removing the front cover
1. Disconnect the battery from the ground. Remove crankshaft pulley (see subsection 3.1.11).
2. Note the orientation of the oil seal and pry it out to remove the oil seal.
3. Lightly lubricate the outside and lip of the new oil seal with engine oil and press in the new oil seal without distortion using a drift with a diameter slightly smaller than the oil seal diameter. The front face of the gland must be flush with the front cover.
4. Install the pulley.

3. Clean the oil seal bore and lightly coat the outside and lip of the new oil seal with engine oil.
4. Carefully, without distortion, press the new oil seal into place using a mandrel with a diameter slightly smaller than the diameter of the oil seal (photo on the left) or blows through the bar (photo on the right).
5. Install the rest of the parts in reverse order.
