1. Gasket; 2. Pusher; 3. Oil nozzle; 4. Camshaft; 5. Drive gear; 6. Lid; 7. Oil seal; 8. Pulley; 9. Power steering pump pulley; 10. Driven gear; 11. Thrust washer; 12. Belt; 13. Fan; 14. Fan clutch; 15. Coolant pump pulley; 16. Side cover
Removing
1. Disconnect the battery from the ground.
2. Set the piston of the 6th cylinder to the TDC of the compression stroke, for which first set the piston of the 1st cylinder to the TDC, and then tighten the crankshaft 1 turn.
3. Remove the radiator (see subsection 4.5).
4. Remove the A/C compressor (if provided) and take it aside without disconnecting the lines.
5. Remove the fuel pump (on carbureted engines).
6. Remove the distributor. Keep in mind that the slider should be directed towards the output of the 6th cylinder. Before removing, mark the position of the slider with marks.
7. Remove the cylinder head cover.
8. Remove rocker arms with rollers and push rods.
9. Remove pushers.
10. Remove the front cover.
11. Check the clearance of the camshaft drive gears. If the clearance is not correct, replace both gears.
12. Remove the thrust washer and carefully remove the camshaft, holding it against the block.
13. Check the end clearance of the camshaft. If the play is too high, replace the thrust washer.
14. Press onto the gear from the camshaft by removing the circlip (1 - up) (if there is no press, then contact the car service).
15. Remove the crankshaft key.
16. Remove the drive gear with a puller.
Installation
1. Clean the parts and check the condition of the gear teeth. In the presence of chips, chipping, deformation of the gear, replace (change only in pairs). Check the condition of the cylinder block and crankshaft toe (the presence of burrs or scratches that prevent the removal of the gear).
2. Press the drive gear onto the crankshaft with a mandrel, orienting the marking (1) outward and aligning the groove in the gear with the selection of the key (photo on the left). Sample (2) under the key should face up (photo on the right).
3. Lubricate the journals and cams of the camshaft with molybdenum grease and carefully install the camshaft.
4. Enter the driven gear into engagement with the leading gear, aligning the marks (1).
5. Install the thrust washer bolts and tighten to the specified torque.
6. Install the crankshaft key.
7. Install the oil nozzle so that the hole (1) was sent to the gears. Check the cleanliness of the nozzle first.
8. Further assembly is carried out in the reverse order. Keep in mind that pushrods and camshafts only change together. Install the rest of the parts, fill and start the engine, listen to the work and make sure there are no leaks.
