Gearbox installation [Toyota Land Cruiser J70]

1. Install the gearbox assembly with the transfer case and tighten the mounting bolts

Tightening torque: 27 Nm

2. Install the crossbar and secure with eight bolts and two nuts.

Tightening torque:
  • bolts - 39 Nm
  • nuts - 59 Nm

3. Install the exhaust pipe and tighten the mounting nuts

4. Connect the speedometer drive cable to the transfer case.

5. Connect the low gear sensor connector (L4).

6. Connect the connectors of the four-wheel drive sensor (4WD) and the reverse light switch.

7. Connect the vacuum hoses to the air actuator on the transfer case and install the clamps.

8. Install the starter and tighten the mounting bolt.

9. Install the clutch slave cylinder and tighten the two mounting bolts.

Tightening torque - 12 Nm

10. Install the reinforcement bracket and tighten the four mounting bolts.

Tightening torque: 69 Nm

11. Connect the cardan shafts.

12. Lower the vehicle.

13. Installing the shift lever,

a) Align the groove of the lever cap with the pin of the crankcase cover.

b) Cover the lever cap with a cloth.

c) While pressing down on the cap, turn it clockwise to install.



d) Install the gear shift boot and secure it with four bolts.



14. Tighten the fan shroud mounting bolt.

15. Connect the cable to the negative battery terminal.

16. Conduct a road test. Make sure there is no extraneous noise in the gearbox and that gear shifting is smooth.
