Removing the water pump
Engines 2L, 2L-T, 3L
1. Drain the coolant.
2. Remove drive belts.
3. Remove fan, fluid coupling and water pump pulley. Remove the four nuts securing the fluid coupling to the pulley, then remove the fan, viscous coupling and pulley.
4. Remove the crankshaft pulley and the #1 timing belt cover.
5. Using needle nose pliers, remove the timing belt tension spring.
6. Turn away six bolts, remove an arm of a tension spring, the water pump and a lining.
Removing the water pump (engines 2L, 2L-T, 3L): 1 - drive belt, 2 • fan, 3 - viscous coupling, 4 - timing belt cover No. 1, 5 - gasket, 6 - pulley seat, 7 - water pump, 8 - gasket, 9 - spring bracket, 10 - plug, 11 - crankshaft pulley, 12 - bolt M. 3. 167 Nm.
Removing the water pump (engine 1KZ-T): 1 - water pump impeller, 2 - generator, 3 - rear timing belt cover, 4 - generator bracket, 5 - gasket, 6 - water pump snail, 7 - drive belt, 8 - pulley 9 - viscous coupling, 10 - fan.
Engine 1KZ-T
1. Drain the coolant.
2. Removing the fan, drive belts and water pump pulley.
A) Without relieving the tension of the drive belt, loosen the 4 nuts securing the fan.
b) Loosen the axle bolt and the belt tensioner bolt.
V) Turn out an adjusting bolt of the tension device and remove belts of a drive of the pump.
G) Loosen the nuts, remove the fan assembly with the viscous coupling and the pump pulley.
3. Remove the timing belt and timing belt idler.
4. Remove a gear pulley of a camshaft.
5. Remove the rear timing belt cover.
6. Removing the water pump.
A) Remove the axle bolt and alternator fixing bolt.
b) Unscrew the four bolts securing the alternator bracket, remove the bracket.
V) Remove 5 bolts and 2 nuts securing the water pump, remove the pump impeller and gasket.
G) Turn out a bolt, remove a snail of the pump and a lining.
Condition monitoring and repair of water pump components
1. Check the water pump.
Turning the pulley, check the smoothness and noiselessness of the movement of the water pump bearings. If necessary, replace the water pump.
2. Check the viscous coupling for damage and silicone oil leakage. If necessary, replace the clutch.
3. Replacing the pulley support (engines 2L, 2L-T, 3L).
A) Using the special tool and a press, press the shaft out of the bearing and remove the pulley support.
b) Using the special tool and a press, press the shaft out of the bearing and install a new pulley support 76.5 - 77.5 mm between the pulley support and the pump housing.
