Water pump - 4-cylinder engine
1. Bypass tube; 2. O-ring; 3. Gasket; 4. Inlet tube; 5. Gasket; 6. Thermostat; 7. Adjusting plate; 8. Water pump; 9. Gasket; 10. Water pump cover; 11. Intermediate pulley N2; 12. Spring; 13. Intermediate pulley N1
Examination
1. If the water pump is defective, it must be replaced immediately, otherwise the engine may be seriously damaged due to overheating.
2. Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature and pinch the upper radiator hose by hand. If the pump is working properly, you should feel fluid pressure when you release the hose.
3. The water pump is equipped with filtration holes. If the pump gasket wears out, fluid will begin to flow from these holes.
4. If the pump shaft bearing fails, a whistling sound will be heard at the front of the motor.
Removal and installation
4 cylinder engine
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the timing belt and intermediate belt pulleys.
3. Remove the adjusting plate (arrow) generator. Remove the air conditioning compressor and move it to the side without disconnecting the hoses from it. Disconnect the lower radiator hose.
4. Remove the water pump bolts. Remove the pump and its gasket.
5. Disconnect the bypass hose, unscrew the two nuts and remove the heating system pipe.
6. Thoroughly clean the mating surfaces of the pump.
7. Install new gaskets and o-rings, install the pump.
8. Install the bolts shown in the figure.
9. Tighten three more bolts in the sequence shown.
10. Install the remaining parts.
6 cylinder engine
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable and drain the coolant.
2. Remove the timing belt and camshaft sprockets.
3. Remove the bolt securing the inlet tube to the alternator regulator. Remove intake pipe and thermostat. Disconnect the wiring harness from the clamps (indicated by arrows), slide the harness and remove the timing belt rear cover.
4. Unscrew one of the long pump rods to remove the pump (indicated by an arrow).
5. Thoroughly clean the mating surfaces of the pump.
6. Install new gaskets (arrow). Install the pump and tighten the pump bolts.
