Attention! Work is performed on a cold engine.
Removal
1. Disconnect the battery from ground.
2. Drain the coolant.
3. Drain the engine oil and remove the oil filter.
4. Remove the throttle body, fuel distributor and injectors.
5. Remove the intake manifold.
6. Remove the exhaust manifold.
Note: The intake manifold and exhaust manifold can be removed together with the cylinder head, without separating them, for final disassembly on the stand.
7. Remove the generator and distributor.
8. Remove the camshaft gear with the chain, temporarily supporting it on the chain guide.
9. Remove the camshafts and tappets.
10. Loosen the power steering pump mounting bolts and move the pump to the side without disconnecting the hoses.
11. Identify and disconnect the remaining parts: cooling system pipes, cables, hoses and wiring (the arrows indicate the vacuum hoses and the cooling system hoses).
12. Remove the coolant pipes on both sides of the cylinder head.
13. Remove the 2 front cover bolts, then loosen the cylinder head bolts, loosening each bolt 1/4 turn at a time. Loosen the bolts in the order shown. Inspect the bolts, and replace them if any deformation or damage to the threads is found.
14. Remove the cylinder head (the head can be pried off from the transmission side).

15. Remove the remaining parts from the head, which is necessary for inspection and thorough cleaning. Cylinder head repair procedures are described in subsection 3.3.7.1.
Installation
1. Clean the mating surfaces of the cylinder head and block.
2. Carefully (taking care to prevent dirt from getting into the holes) scrape off any carbon deposits and remaining gasket material.
3. Check the split surfaces of the cylinder head and block for burrs, chips, dents and other damage. Minor damage can be removed with a file; in case of serious damage, the head or block must be re-ground.
4. Run out all the threads on the head, blow out all the channels and holes with compressed air.
5. Turn the threads of each bolt.
6. Reinstall all parts removed during head disassembly.
7. Place the new gasket on the cylinder block, aligning it with the pins.
8. Carefully install the head onto the cylinder block without disturbing the position of the gasket.
9. Lubricate the thrust surfaces of the bolt heads with engine oil.
10. Tighten the cylinder head bolts by hand into their original positions. Tighten the short bolts on the intake side and the long bolts on the exhaust side. Tighten the bolts to the specified torque in the specified sequence. At the 2nd and 3rd tightening stages, tighten the bolts by 1/4 turn (90°).
11. Then the assembly is performed in the reverse order. Adjust the valves. Fill the cooling system with liquid, add oil. Start the engine, make sure there are no leaks. Check the driving characteristics of the car.
