Attention! Work is performed on a cold engine.

Removal

1. Disconnect the battery from ground.

2. On engines equipped with a PAIR system (pulse fuel injection system) remove the system of pipes and valves located near the manifold.

3. Remove the heat shields (exhaust manifold heat shield bolts are indicated by arrows).

4. Wet the exhaust manifold nuts and bolts and the exhaust pipe to manifold mounting nuts with penetrating liquid. After wetting, unscrew the exhaust pipe nuts.

5. Unscrew the nuts (indicated by arrows) and remove the manifold and gasket.

Installation

1. Clean the manifold and cylinder head split surfaces from gasket material residues and carbon deposits. If there are signs of leakage through the gasket, check the manifold split surface deformation in a specialized workshop, and grind it if necessary.

2. Place a new gasket on the cylinder head studs.

Caution! The marks on the gasket must face away from the cylinder head.

3. Install the manifold and tighten the nuts back into place.

4. Tighten the nuts evenly in three to four steps to the specified torque (see subsection 3.2.1). Tighten the bolts and nuts from the center to the periphery of the manifold.

5. Install the remaining parts in the reverse order of disassembly.

6. Start the engine and check the exhaust manifold connections for leaks.
