Work on the crankshaft and related parts in the same way as was done for gasoline engines. In this case, you should work using a table of dimensions and adjustments, since it contains different data regarding backlash, the diameter of the journals of the main bearings and connecting rod journals, the thickness of the thrust half-rings, axial play, etc. The tightening torques of the bearing caps also differ. Figure 313 shows the details of the crank mechanism.
You should pay attention to the oil injection nozzle and the oil check valve, which are not installed on gasoline engines. Both parts can be removed. The oil pump is removed as described below in the corresponding chapter. The main bearing play is measured in the same way as already described, but when installing bearing shells of a nominal size, be sure to install bearing shells with the same digital markings. On the back side of the bearings there are markings with the numbers 1, 2 or 3. The same number marking for the corresponding main bearing is stamped on the flywheel side of the cylinder block. If the same liners are reinstalled, they must be installed in the same holes, since they have already been worn in with the bearing journals.
