- Arrow on the piston crown (either applied, or on a new connecting rod with an arrow) should face the front of the engine.
- Label "VORN" on the connecting rod should face the front of the engine. There is a small protrusion on the connecting rod near the bearing that should be located closer to the front of the engine.
- Cylinder number indices (Pic. 22) on the connecting rods and bearing caps must match.
- Using a circlip pliers, insert one of the circlips into the piston bore. The ring should fit well into the groove.
- Heat the piston either on an electric stove or in hot water to approximately 80°C, lubricate the pin and the piston hole with engine oil and press the pin with your thumb into the correctly connected piston and connecting rod until the pin rests on the lock ring on the other side. Install the second retaining ring in the piston bore.
- Check that after assembly the piston can tilt freely on the connecting rod in both directions.
- Install both compression rings and the oil scraper ring as shown in Figure 87. Both compression rings can be installed upside down by mistake. To avoid mistakes, letters are printed on one side "T" or "N" and these letters should be visible from the piston bottom after putting on the ring (above).
