- Carefully clamp the steering knuckle in a vice, as shown in Figure 193, and use a screwdriver to pull out the dust ring from the steering knuckle. In this case, the dust protection ring is destroyed.
Pic. 193. Clamp the steering knuckle in the indicated position and pull out the dust ring with a screwdriver
- Remove the inner oil seal from the steering knuckle (2). To do this, place a screwdriver under the seal lips.
- Clean the rear of the steering knuckle and use a circlip pliers to squeeze and pull out the large circlip (3).
- Press the wheel hub out of the steering knuckle using a press, or knock it out with a soft metal drift.
- Pull out the oil seal from the outside of the steering knuckle (16).
- Bearing inner race (10) remains on the hub and can be removed from the hub with a puller with two legs, as shown in Figure 194. Place the removed inner race into the wheel bearing and press the wheel bearing back out of the steering knuckle. At the same time, install the steering knuckle on the press table in the position indicated in Figure 195. Pressure should only be applied to the outer race of the bearing.

- Unscrew the brake disc guard.
- If the car is equipped with an ABS system, remove the gear rotor from the inside of the brake disc. To do this, clamp the disk in a vice, laying metal spacers, as shown in Figure 196, and unscrew the four bolts with special heads. This requires a set of special keys (type "Torx")

- Wash the bearing thoroughly in clean gasoline and blow with compressed air without turning the bearing. If there are signs of wear, wear or discoloration, replace the bearing. If there are signs of abrasion on the hub, this means that the inner races of the bearing have been rotated. In this case, replace the hub. Light scratches can be removed with an oiled file.
Assemble the steering knuckle using Figure 192 as follows:
- Place the front side of the steering knuckle on the press table and press or drive the wheel bearing from the rear side (5). The drift must match the outer diameter of the bearing.
- Insert the inner race of the bearing into the bearing (10) and tap lightly.
- Lubricate the jaws of the new oil seal (16) and press it flush into the steering knuckle from the outside.
- Cover the surfaces of the steering knuckle and mudguard with sealing compound and screw on the mudguard.
- If the vehicle is equipped with an ABS system and the gear rotor has been removed, place the rotor on the rear side and insert the bolts. Clamp the wheel hub in a vice, as shown in Figure 196, and tighten the bolts to a torque of 14 Nm using a special wrench from the key set "Torx". When tightening, do not damage the wheel hub.
- Install the wheel hub flange onto the press and place the steering knuckle with the pressed bearing onto the hub. Place the emphasis of the press on the outer race of the bearing and press the steering knuckle onto the wheel hub.
- Insert large circlip (3) into the groove on the rear side of the steering knuckle.
- Lubricate the jaws of the new oil seal (2) and press it into the rear side of the steering knuckle until it rests on the surface of the knuckle.
- Carefully drive the dust ring into the rear of the steering knuckle.
