Brake pad wear indicators on disc brakes sound a warning chime when the brake pads have worn to the point where they need to be replaced. If you hear a squealing or grinding noise while driving, have your brake pads checked and replaced immediately. Avoid continuing to drive with the warning chime sounding. Continuing to drive without replacing your brake pads will cause severe damage to the rotor and increase the pedal effort required to achieve the same stopping distance.
