Pic. 1.23. Car key set: 1 - main keys; 2 - auxiliary key
Your car comes with two kinds of keys (pic. 1.23).
Basic Keys
All car locks can be opened with one key. However, since the doors can be locked without using a key, it is recommended that you carry a spare key with you in case you accidentally lock the key inside the vehicle.
Pic. 1.24. Tag with key number
A set of keys has a number that is printed on a number tag located on the same ring as the keys (pic. 1.24).
Remember or write down your key number. To prevent unauthorized persons from discovering the key number, remove the tag from the ring and store it in a safe place away from the keys outside the vehicle.
If you need additional keys (or lost keys), duplicates can be made by an authorized Toyota dealer.
The key is equipped with a wireless remote control transmitter. For details on using the wireless remote control transmitter, see «Wireless remote control transmitter» in this section.
Auxiliary key
This key does not fit the glovebox or trunk.
To protect any items locked in the trunk or glove box when the vehicle is in park mode, leave the auxiliary key to service personnel.
The transponder chip for the engine immobilizer system is built into the head of the main and subkeys. These chips are necessary to ensure the proper operation of the system, so be careful not to lose these keys. If you make your own duplicate key, you will not be able to unlock the system or start the engine.
Attention! When working with a dongle with a built-in transponder chip, observe the following precautions:
- 1. When starting the engine, do not use a key with a ring that is in contact with the key head, and do not press the key ring against the key head. Otherwise, the engine will either not start or may stop shortly after starting.
- 2. When starting the engine, do not use the key next to which there is another key with a transponder (including keys to other cars), and do not press the flat surface of another wrench against the head. Otherwise, the engine will either not start or may stop shortly after starting. If this happens, remove the extra keys (including keys to other cars) from the ring, or hold or cover them with your hand, remove the key and insert it again, then start the engine.
- 3. Do not bend the key head.
- 4. Do not coat the key head with any other material, as this will reflect electromagnetic waves.
- 5. Do not hit other objects with the key with force.
- 6. Do not expose the key to prolonged exposure to high temperatures, in particular, do not leave it on the dashboard or on the hood in direct sunlight.
- 7. Do not immerse the key in water or wash it in an ultrasonic cleaner.
- 8. Do not expose the key to electromagnetic materials.
