Checking the working fluid level
Note: The vehicle must be driven until the automatic transmission fluid reaches normal operating temperature (70-80°C).
1. Place the vehicle on a level, horizontal surface and apply the parking brake.
2. With the engine idling, hold down the brake pedal, move the selector to all positions from "P" to "L" and return it back to the "P" position.
3. Remove the dipstick and wipe it dry.
4. Insert the dipstick completely into the nozzle.
5. Remove the dipstick: the working fluid level should be between the "HOT" (warm) marks. If the level is below this range, top up the working fluid.
Working fluid:
- A140L, A140E — DEXRON
- A540N — Toyota TYPE T
Note: Castrol Transmax Z working fluid is an analogue of Toyota TYPE T working fluid.
Note: Do not overfill above the specified level.

Checking the condition of the working fluid
(The article was copied from the portal: ToyotaMan)
If the working fluid smells burnt, has darkened or has become viscous, replace it. To determine the fluidity, compare it with fresh working fluid using a paper napkin. Normal working fluid is easily absorbed by paper, and bad working fluid is absorbed slowly.
Replacement of working fluid
Note: when replacing the automatic transmission fluid, it is also recommended to replace the automatic transmission filter (see chapter "Automatic transmission").
1. Unscrew the drain plug and drain the working fluid.

3. Install a new gasket and tighten the automatic transmission drain plug.
- Tightening torque - 49 Nm
4. Fill with fresh working fluid through the filler pipe to the lower mark of the "COOL" range (cold).
Working fluid:
- A140L, A140E — DEXRON III
- A540N — Toyota TYPE T
Note: Castrol Transmax Z automatic transmission fluid is an analogue of Toyota TYPE T fluid.
Volume of liquid to be poured (when replacing):
- A140L, A140E — 2.5L
- A540N - 3.5 l
5. Start the engine at idle speed and move the selector lever to all positions from "P" to "L" and back to the "P" position.
6. With the engine idling, check the fluid level. Add fluid to the "COOL" level on the dipstick.
7. Check the fluid level at normal operating temperature (70-80°C) and top up if necessary.
Note: Do not overfill above the specified level.
Checking the differential fluid level (A140L, A140E)
1. Unscrew the filler plug and check the working fluid level in the differential.

Replacing the working fluid in the differential (A140L, A140E)
1. Unscrew the drain plug and filler neck. Drain the working fluid.
2. Install a new gasket and tighten the drain plug.
3. Fill with fresh working fluid until it flows out of the filler hole
