Avoid breathing engine exhaust gases. They contain carbon monoxide, a colorless, odorless gas. It can lead to loss of consciousness or even death.
Make sure the exhaust system has no holes or loose connections. The system should be checked from time to time. If you notice a change in exhaust sound, check the system immediately.
Do not operate the engine in a garage or enclosed area, except for the time required to drive the vehicle in or out. Exhaust gases will not have an exit, which will create a very dangerous situation.
Do not stay for a long time in a parked car with the engine running. However, if this is unavoidable, do so only in an open area and adjust the heating or cooling system so that it draws fresh outside air into the vehicle.
Keep the trunk lid closed while driving. An open or loose trunk lid can cause exhaust fumes to be drawn into the vehicle.
To ensure proper operation of your vehicle's ventilation system, keep the intake grilles in front of the windshield clear of snow, leaves, and other obstructions.
If you smell exhaust fumes in your vehicle, drive with the windows open and the trunk lid closed. Find and eliminate the cause immediately.
