Errors in the operation and maintenance of the airbag system may lead to the inadvertent activation of the system during service activities, or to the failure of the system to activate during an accident, so always follow the rules described in the repair manual.
1. Never disassemble the steering wheel air bag assembly.
2. Do not expose the steering wheel pad to impacts or strong magnetic fields.
3. Do not expose the steering wheel pad to heat or flame.
4. If grease, water or other liquids get on the surface of the steering wheel pad, remove them immediately with a dry cloth.
5. Do not remove the steering wheel pad, do not allow the steering wheel to be used without the pad.
6. Never install the steering wheel or wheel trim on another vehicle.
7. When storing, place the steering wheel pad face up on a flat, stable surface. Never place anything on the steering wheel pad.
8. If the vehicle repair involves strong impacts, block the sensor first.
9. Even after a minor collision in which the airbag did not deploy, always check the pad surface and the condition of the sensor. If dents, cracks, deformations, etc. are found, replace the airbag assembly.
10. When disposing of a vehicle or steering wheel, always discharge the airbag first.
11. The outer surface of the airbag unit becomes hot when deployed. Wait until the unit cools down to normal temperature. Do not use water for cooling!
12. Symptoms of airbag system malfunctions can be difficult to recognize. Always check fault codes before disconnecting the battery.
13. Do not work on the airbag system earlier than 90 seconds after setting the ignition switch to the "LOCK" position and disconnecting the negative cable from the battery.
