Errors in the operation and maintenance of the airbag system can lead to inadvertent operation of the system during service activities, or to the failure of the system at the time of an accident, so always follow the rules described in the repair manual.
1. Never disassemble the airbag assembly in the steering wheel.
2. Do not expose the steering wheel pad to shock or strong magnetic fields.
3. Avoid heat or flames on the steering wheel pad.
4. If grease, water and other liquids get on the surface of the steering wheel pad, immediately remove them with a dry rag.
5. Do not remove the pad from the steering wheel, do not allow the operation of the steering wheel without the pad.
6. Never install a steering wheel or wheel trim on another vehicle.
7. When storing, place the steering wheel pad face up on a flat, stable surface. Never put anything on the steering wheel pad.
8. If the vehicle repair involves strong shocks, block the sensor first.
9. Even after a minor collision in which the airbag did not deploy, always check the lining surface and the condition of the sensor. When potholes, cracks, deformations, etc. are detected. replace the airbag assembly.
10. When disposing of a vehicle or steering wheel, always deflate the air bag first.
11. The outer surface of the airbag assembly heats up when deployed. Wait for the assembly to cool down to normal temperature. Do not use water for cooling!
12. Airbag system malfunction symptoms are difficult to recognize. Always check for trouble codes before disconnecting the battery.
13. Carry out work on the airbag system no earlier than 90 seconds after setting the ignition switch to the "LOCK" and disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
