Removing
Attention! If your radio has an anti-theft code, check that you have the pairing codes before disconnecting the battery.
Attention! On models since 1993, the airbag system is disabled if the battery is disconnected for an extended period. If the airbag warning light comes on and stays on after reconnecting the battery, take it to a specialist workshop to restore the system to normal.
Attention! Perform further actions no earlier than 90 seconds so that the air cushion capacitor is completely discharged.
1. Remove the ground wire from the battery.
2. Set the front wheels to drive straight ahead. On both sides of the steering wheel, remove the plugs and unscrew the two screws securing the airbag to the steering wheel.
3. Remove the airbag unit from the steering wheel and disconnect the electrical connector from the unit.
4. Disconnect the horn and cruise control electrical connector.
5. Mark the position of the steering wheel hub in relation to the steering shaft and unscrew the steering wheel nut.
6. Using a special puller, remove the steering wheel from the shaft.
Installation
1. Check that the front wheels are set to drive straight ahead. Turn the coiled wire plate counterclockwise until it stops, then turn it 3 turns clockwise and align the two red pointers.
2. Install the steering wheel on the shaft in accordance with the marks previously made. Secure the steering wheel with the nut, tightening it to the required torque.
3. Connect the horn and cruise control electrical connectors.
4. Connect the airbag electrical connector.
5. Install the airbag on the steering wheel and secure with bolts.
6. Connect ground wire to battery.
