When to change wheels
If the wheel is damaged, such as bent, cracked or severely corroded, it must be replaced. Otherwise, the tire may slip off the wheel or cause loss of control.
Wheel selection
Wheels must be replaced with those with the same load capacity, diameter, rim width and offset. A different wheel size or type may adversely affect vehicle handling, wheel and bearing life, brake cooling, speedometer/odometer calibration, stopping ability, headlight aiming, bumper height, vehicle clearance, and tire or snow chain clearance to body and chassis.
Replacement with used wheels is not recommended. Never use a tire tube in a wheel with a leak that has been designed for a tubeless tyre.
Aluminum wheels
After driving the car for the first 1600 km, check that the wheel nuts are properly tightened.
If tires have been rotated, repaired or replaced, check that the wheel nuts are still tight after 1600 km.
When using chains, be careful not to damage the aluminum wheels.
Use only Toyota wheel nuts and wrench designed for aluminum wheels.
When balancing wheels, use only Toyota or equivalent weights and a plastic or rubber mallet.
As with any wheels, periodically check aluminum wheels for damage. If it is, replace the wheel immediately.
