Manual Transmission - We recommend using a tow bar under the front wheels. If you are not using a towbar, turn the ignition key to the "ACC", and the transmission in neutral.
Automatic Transmission - Use the tow bar under the front wheels.
If towing is required, we recommend that it be done by a Toyota dealer or a towing truck technician. Consult with them which of the methods - (A) or (b) - Best used for towing a car. Only if you cannot obtain such technical assistance, carefully tow the vehicle yourself in accordance with the instructions.
The vehicle may be damaged if not properly towed. Although most operators know the correct towing procedure, there is room for error. To avoid damage to the vehicle, make sure the following have been observed.
Attention! Use the safety chain system at all times when towing and obey state/provincial and local laws. The wheels and axle on the ground must be in good condition. If they are damaged, use a towing dolly.
Emergency towing
Lugs for towing
If towing is required, we recommend that it be done by a Toyota dealer or a towing truck technician. If towing service is not available, the vehicle can be towed using a cable or chain attached to one of the emergency towing lugs located under the vehicle. Be extremely careful when towing a vehicle.
The driver must be in the vehicle to steer and apply the brakes. Towing in this way can only be done on paved roads for short distances and at low speeds. Wheels, axles, drive linkage, steering and brakes must be in good condition.
