Checking and adjusting the parking brake [Toyota Camry XV30]

Check the travel of the parking brake lever.

Pull the parking brake lever all the way down and count the number of clicks.

Parking brake lever movement at 200 N force: 6–9 clicks

Parking brake pedal movement at 300 N force: 3–6 clicks

Adjust the travel of the parking brake lever if necessary.

Note: Before adjusting the parking brake, make sure the rear brake shoe clearance is adjusted (see below).


Remove the decorative cover.

Loosen the lock nut and, by turning the adjusting nut, set the required stroke of the parking brake lever (fig. 6.22, 6.23).

Tighten the lock nut.

Tightening torque: 5.4 Nm for pedal drive, 5.0 for lever drive.

Install the decorative casing.
