The SRS airbag system is designed only as an addition to the main safety belt system on the driver's and front passenger's side. Front passengers should be aware that if they do not properly fasten their seat belts, they could be seriously injured or killed if the airbag deploys. In the event of sudden braking immediately prior to a collision, the driver or front passenger who is not wearing the correct seat belt may move forward close to the airbag, which may then deploy in the event of a collision. For maximum protection during an accident, the driver and all passengers in the vehicle must be properly fastened with seat belts. Proper use of seat belts reduces the chance of death or serious injury, and the chance of a person being ejected from the vehicle.
Infants and children who are improperly seated and/or strapped in can be killed or seriously injured when the front airbags deploy. An infant or child who is too small to use a seat belt must be properly secured using a child seat. Toyota strongly recommends that all infants and children be in the back seat of the vehicle and be properly secured. The back seat is the safest for babies and children.
Do not allow a child to stand up or kneel in the front passenger seat as the front air bag inflates with considerable speed and force. Otherwise, the child may die or be seriously injured.
Do not hold the child on your lap or in your arms.
Do not place objects or pets on the dashboard or in front of the dashboard or steering wheel platform that houses the front airbag system. They can prevent airbag inflation or cause death or serious injury as the force of the deploying airbags will push them backward. Moreover, the driver and front passenger do not have to hold things in their hands or on their knees.
Do not modify or remove any wires. Do not modify, remove, strike or open any components such as the steering wheel pad, steering wheel, steering column shroud, front passenger air bag cover, front passenger air bag or air bag sensor assembly. Doing so could result in the unexpected deployment of the SRS airbag or system failure, resulting in death or serious injury.
