The shoulder strap of the belt must always be located on the chest and pass over the shoulder. Never miss a webbing handy. If you use the seat belt incorrectly, you could be seriously injured.
Seat belts are designed to protect the driver and passengers in the event of an accident. The driver and all passengers in the vehicle must wear seat belts. Belts must be properly adjusted and fastened.
Each seat belt is a personal protective equipment and can only be used by one person at a time. Standard seat belts are not suitable for children under 6 years of age. To ensure the safety of transporting small children in the car, use special removable child seats and pillows.
In the event of a sudden vehicle maneuver or an accident, occupants of the vehicle can be seriously injured if they do not properly fasten their seat belts.
During the trip, the driver and all passengers must be sure to fasten their seat belts.
It is forbidden to fasten more than one person with one belt.
Do not fasten the seat belt over hard or fragile items in pockets or clothing. In the event of an accident, objects such as glasses, pens, etc. may cause injury.
Improper use of seat belts leads to an increase in the severity of injuries sustained by the driver and passengers in a car accident.
It is forbidden to make any changes to the design of seat belts and inertia reels.
Any modification to the constant belt tension mechanism is prohibited.
The use of defective seat belts increases the severity of injuries sustained by the driver and passengers in a road traffic accident.
Replace damaged seat belts immediately.
Make sure that the seat belts are not pinched by the doors or elements of the longitudinal movement of the seats. This leads to damage and failure of the belts.
Use of seat belts
Always use your seat belts to avoid serious injury in an accident or sudden vehicle maneuver. Observe the following requirements regarding the use of seat belts (including together with child seats), and caring for seat belts.
- Adjust the seat belt so that it fits as close to your body as possible.
- Bring the seatback to a position as close to vertical as possible and acceptable in terms of comfort and ease of driving.
- Do not tilt the seat back to a large angle while the vehicle is moving.
- It is forbidden to use a seat belt with a twisted tape.
- It is forbidden to thread the shoulder belt under the arm located on the side of the door.
- The shoulder branch of the belt should be located in the middle of the shoulder, and in no case on the neck.
- The lap belt should fit snugly around the hips, not around the waist.
If the lap belt is too high and the shoulder belt pretension is too low, it can cause death or serious injury in a crash. In the event of a frontal collision with a car, such a seat belt will not be able to perform its protective function, since the buckled person will slip under the belt.
Warning! Improper use of seat belts leads to an increase in the severity of injuries sustained by the driver and passengers in a road traffic accident.
- The belt clip release button must be located on the outside. The brace of each belt must be fastened to the appropriate buckle.
- Do not place any foreign object in the slot in the upholstery panel through which the seat belt webbing passes when it is pulled out and retracted into the retractable mechanism. This may cause the inertial mechanism to lock up or damage the belt webbing.
Note. If the seat belt was locked when pulled out of the retractable mechanism, release the belt and allow it to fully rewind onto the reel spool. After that, gently pull the belt back to the desired length and fasten it to the buckle.
Seat belt care
Make sure that the seat belts are always dry and clean. Avoid contact with seat belt bands from polishes, oils and other chemicals, especially battery acid. The day of cleaning the belts, you can use an aqueous solution of mild soap.
Do not use bleach or dyes as this may cause the belt material to lose strength. Check belts for cuts, chafing from sharp edges, or other signs of damage.
Periodically check the condition of all components of the seat belt system, if any malfunctions are found, replace unusable parts and components. Belts that have been heavily stressed in an accident should be replaced with new ones.
It is recommended to replace the seat belts used by the driver and passengers after an accident. The replacement must be complete. If the accident was minor, the seat belts may not need to be replaced. The decision to replace the seat belts should be made by an authorized Toyota dealer after a thorough inspection of the technical condition and operation of the seat belts. Seat belts that were not in use at the time of the accident should also be checked. If damage or abnormal functioning of the mechanisms is detected, these belts should also be replaced.
Features of the use of seat belts by pregnant women
Pregnant women, like other passengers, are advised to wear a seat belt. For more detailed instructions on how to use seat belts, you should consult a doctor.
To avoid serious injury and damage to the fetus in a traffic accident, pregnant women should be especially attentive to the correct position of the seat belt relative to the body.
- If there are no contraindications, use a seat belt with waist and shoulder straps (consult a doctor about this).
- Keep the lap section of the seat belt as low as possible throughout pregnancy.
