Checking the steering wheel effort [Toyota Camry Vista-V40]

Note: Before performing the inspection, check the tire pressure, tire type and tire contact surface.


1. (For models not equipped with an airbag)

Remove the steering wheel cover.

a) Unscrew the steering wheel cover bolt and remove it.

b) Disconnect the connector.



2 (For models equipped with an airbag).

Remove the steering wheel trim (see chapter "Safety system (SRS)").

Caution: Store the overlay with the face up.


3. Determine the force on the steering wheel.

a) Stop the vehicle on a level surface and set the steering wheel to the center position.

b) Start the engine and set it to idle speed.

c) Install the torque wrench as shown in the figure.

d) Measure the steering wheel force in both directions.
  • Maximum permissible force - 8 Nm



d) Check the tightness of the steering wheel mounting nut.


  • Tightening torque - 36 Nm
