Removal
Warning! If your radio has an anti-theft code, check that you have the connection codes before disconnecting the battery.
Caution! On models from 1993 onwards, the airbag system is disabled if the battery is disconnected for an extended period of time. If the airbag warning light comes on and remains on after the battery is reconnected, contact a specialist workshop to restore the system to working order.
1. Remove the ground cable from the battery.
2. Disconnect the crankcase ventilation hose from the cylinder head cover.
3. Remove the high-tension wires from the spark plugs.

4. Unscrew the two bolts and remove the upper timing belt cover.
5. Unscrew the nuts securing the head cover to the spark plug tubes.
6. Carefully remove the cylinder head cover. If the cover is stuck to the cylinder head, do not insert a lever or screwdriver between the cover and the cylinder head. Use a wooden mallet to lightly tap the cover off the cylinder head.
Installation
1. Clean the mating surfaces of the cover and cylinder head.
2. Apply a thin layer of sealant to the cylinder head in the areas shown in the figure.
3. Install a new gasket onto the cylinder head and then the cylinder head cover.
4. Screw on the cylinder head cover mounting nuts and tighten them in several stages to the required torque.
5. Further installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
