Attention! Allow the engine to cool before working on the exhaust manifold.
Removing
Attention! If your radio has an anti-theft code, check that you have the pairing codes before disconnecting the battery.
Attention! On models since 1993, the airbag system is disabled if the battery is disconnected for an extended period. If the airbag warning light comes on and stays on after reconnecting the battery, take it to a specialist workshop to restore the system to normal.
1. Remove the ground wire from the battery.
2. Disconnect the oxygen sensor wire and its mounting. If the exhaust manifold needs to be replaced, remove the oxygen sensor.
3. Remove the bolts and remove the upper heat shield from the exhaust manifold.
4. Lubricate the exhaust manifold bolts and nuts with oil, fuel or brake fluid.
5. Disconnect the catalytic converter from the exhaust manifold.
6. Remove the exhaust manifold support bracket (some models have two brackets) and bottom heat shield.
7. Unscrew the fastening nuts and remove the collector together with the gasket.
Installation
1. Clean the mating surfaces of the exhaust manifold and cylinder head.
2. Install a new gasket on the cylinder head struts. Note that the marks on the gasket must point towards the exhaust manifold and the arrow must point towards the rear of the engine.
3. Fix the exhaust manifold with nuts, tightening them in several stages to the required torque, and tightening from the center to the periphery.
4. Further installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
5. Start the engine and check for exhaust gas leaks.
