Steering gear and its mounting parts

1. Left wing protective panel; 2, 3. Cotter pin; 4. Right wing protective panel; 5. Stabilizer bar

Removal

Caution! When removing the steering gear, take measures to prevent the steering shaft from turning, otherwise the airbag spiral wire may be damaged. To do this, turn the ignition key to the "Park" position, or wrap the steering wheel with a seat belt and insert the steering wheel buckle into the lock.

1. Set the wheels to the straight ahead position. Raise the front of the vehicle and support it on stands. Apply the parking brake and remove both front wheels. Remove the engine sump guards (if provided).

2. Unscrew the nipples of the pressure and return pipes of the power steering. Plug the pipes. Remove the bracket from the steering gear.

3. Mark the relative orientation of the lower universal joint of the steering shaft and the steering gear shaft. Unscrew the clamp bolt and nut (arrows).

4. Disconnect the steering rods.

5. Loosen the bolts securing the stabilizer bushing clamps (to access the steering gear bolts).

6. Loosen the steering gear mounting nuts, lift the stabilizer bar and knock out the steering gear mounting bolts.

7. Separate the intermediate shaft from the steering gear shaft and remove the steering gear from the right side of the vehicle.

8. Check the condition of the rubber bushings through which the steering gear is attached. Replace the bushings if necessary.

Installation

1. Install the steering gear and attach the cardan joint, aligning the marks made during disassembly.

2. Tighten and tighten the steering gear mounting bolts and nuts to the specified torque.

3. Attach the steering rods.

4. Tighten the universal joint clamp clamp bolt.

5. Connect the power steering pipes and tighten the fittings.

6. Install the stabilizer bar.

7. Lower the vehicle and bleed the power steering circuit.
