Piston N1 is located in front of the right bank of cylinders on the side of the timing belt.
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable and, if necessary, remove the spark plugs.
2. Remove the outer timing belt cover.
3. Rotate the crankshaft so that the timing marks on the camshaft sprocket point up and line up with the slots in the timing belt cover. Each sprocket has two marks (see table Camshaft marks).
4. Align the mark on the crankshaft pulley (arrow) with a pointer on the casing of the oil pump. When the marks are aligned, the N1 piston is at TDC on the compression stroke.
