The contact pressure sensor is mounted on the nipple of the power steering pump.

The sensor is designed to maintain engine idle speed during parking maneuvers.

The sensor is faulty if the engine stalls or continues to idle at high speed during a parking maneuver.

Examination

1. Disconnect the connector and check the sensor contacts for closure with the engine running. The sensor contacts should be open, and closed in the extreme position of the wheels when turning. Replace the faulty sensor.

Replacement

1. Raise the car.

2. Disconnect the battery from ground.

3. Disconnect the connector and unscrew the sensor. After installing the new sensor, bleed the air from the power steering (see subsection 9.2.7.).
