Location of the ECT sensor on 4-cylinder engines
Location of the ECT sensor on 6-cylinder engines
The ECT sensor is a thermistor whose resistance increases as the temperature drops.
Examination
1. To check, disconnect the connector from the sensor and check the resistance of the sensor, which should be 2500–3000 ohms at 20°C.
2. Warming up the engine, or removing the sensor and placing it in boiling water, check the resistance of the sensor at 80°C, which should be 250–300 Ohm.
Replacement
1. Switch off the ignition.
2. On a cold engine, drain 3-4 liters of fluid.
3. Unscrew the sensor. When installing, wrap the new sensor with Teflon tape and tighten with extreme care.
Attention! Failure of the ECT sensor due to improper handling will disrupt the normal operation of the entire engine power system.
