ECT sensor location on 4-cylinder engines

ECT sensor location on 6-cylinder engines

The ECT sensor is a thermistor whose resistance increases as the temperature decreases.
Examination
1. To check, disconnect the connector from the sensor and check the sensor resistance, which should be 2500–3000 Ohm at 20°C.
2. After warming up the engine, or by removing the sensor and placing it in boiling water, check the sensor resistance at 80°C, which should be 250–300 Ohm.
Replacement
1. Turn off the ignition.
2. When the engine is cold, drain 3–4 liters of fluid.
3. Unscrew the sensor. When installing, wrap the new sensor with Teflon tape and tighten it, being extremely careful.
Caution! Failure of the ECT sensor due to improper handling will disrupt the normal operation of the entire engine fuel system.
