Pic. 1.51. Engine coolant temperature gauge
This gauge shows the temperature of the engine coolant when the ignition is on (pic. 1.51). Engine operating temperature varies with weather and engine load.
If the pointer is in the red zone, then the engine has overheated. If overheating occurs, stop the vehicle and let the engine cool down.
The vehicle overheats under severe operating conditions such as:
- long rise in hot weather;
- slowing down or stopping after driving at high speed;
- prolonged idling with the air conditioner on when driving with frequent stops;
- when towing a trailer.
Attention! Do not remove the thermostat in the engine cooling system, as this may cause the engine to overheat. The thermostat is designed to regulate the flow of coolant in order to keep the engine temperature within the specified operating range.
If the engine overheats, stop the vehicle.
