The tachometer shows the engine speed in thousands of rpm (min⁻¹ – revolutions per minute) (Fig. 1.52). Take the tachometer readings into account when choosing the moment to shift gears and to prevent the engine from running at too low or too high speeds.
Driving at too high engine speeds will result in increased engine wear and reduced fuel economy. Remember that in most cases, the lower the engine speed, the better the fuel economy.
Caution! Do not allow the indicator needle to enter the red zone. This may cause significant engine damage.
